The Examination RoomThis is a piece of work done for the Drawing Out Obstetric Fistula project. The examination room is one of the first places the women who are suffering the condition see when they come to the Fistula clinic in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It is in stark contrast to the UK counterpart – as are the operating rooms I visited there, just as the condition itself – as an injury rather than a disease –  is itself in stark contrast to cancer. Whatever the differences however, the sense of ‘womanhood’ still prevails even though while I was there, and thereafter, I have had to reassess how that feels.
